Ebisu Summer Drift Matsuri – Day 1

Posted: September 22, 2011 by stinkypoo31 in Uncategorized

It’s been over a month since Drift Matsuri at Ebisu, so I should finally post something about it. This year (and for the moment future matsuri’s) I bought a car and drifted at the event. If you are a drift nut, this is definitely an event you must drive. Due to the earth quakes earlier this year, it was very quiet, bad for photos for excellent for track time.

These guys were constantly going hard at the D1GP course, Minami. They were driving visibly stock cars, suspension appeared to be unchanged, very soft and bouncy. As well as being non turbo, I’m not sure if they were running any sort of modified diff. Surprisingly they were older than I expected, looking to be late 30’s, could be even older due because they are asian. One of them was even a female.

They were getting some very fast team drifts going into the first corner, entering with what looked like no fear.

We met this guy parked just near the PowerVehicles pit area. He had turned up early in his very nice Mark2 wagon to reserve a spot for his team, who were turning up around lunch time. The wagon had a lot of work done, including a custom roll cage that did not interfere with any of the doors or hatches. It is a family car after all and he is a father.

I think this was the only Itasha car I saw during the matsuri.

These guys were the stand out at Ebisu. Where they went, everyone followed. Their cars were audibly loud and visible loud. This particular R32 was still street registered but not street legal. The owner was telling me how he would run from the police if they tried to pull him over.

From what they said, this was the lowest and worse handling car out of the lot. But was piloted by the best driver in their team.

This S15 doesn’t look like a drift car with it’s lambo doors……

but he did drift it well (sorry for the poor photo).

A “Sort of” clean Hachi.

Andrew Sunderland was hitting Kita or North Course entries hard. If your friends with Pickering on Facebook, you might be able to see photos of how close he was getting to the wall.

The rest of the Hachi crew were pitted up at Kita.

This thing drew soo much attention.

The Victorian boys were having a fun trip, having only deciding to come less than 2 weeks ago.

Mean while the rest of the Mark2 Wagon’s team had turned up.

Something for the KE fans back home.

Rohan had a bad off at Drift Land, driving head first into a dirt mound. He unluckily smashed the intercooler in and the car was undriveable.

Photobucket

The usual spit roast was fired up but it still wasn’t cooked by dinner.

Nic and Rohan were getting worried about sourcing a replacement intercooler so the Vic boys were kind enough to loan their side mount.

Matsuri day 2 will be posted soon. Tomorrow I will be off to Australian Drift Grand Prix at Calder park.
