MGCC Motorkhana @ SDTC

Judging by increase in views of the blog, it looks like people are eager to see some photos of yesterdays Motorkhana at SDTC.

Turn out for the MG Car Club event was very low compared to previous Motorkhana. This could be due to ‘Marques in the Park’ car show that was on the same day or that unregistered cars are now banned from the complex due to noise complaints. A lot of cars were double entered, even triple entered. One competitor did turn up in a unregistered car and was refused entry to the event, luckily Kevin (please correct me if I’m wrong) kindly offered his car to the unfortunate driver.

Australian Motorkhana Champion Reece double entered cars, competing in his R32 Skyline and his daily driver.

I don’t know much about MG’s and I’m pretty sure if it didn’t have a badge, I would not know what is was. This MG has been competing in every Motorkhana I have attended. It is interesting to see the design of the car compared to what is available these days.

The car has front drum brakes and what appears to be torsion bars for shock absorbing.

Zane was competing in his Australian Team Motorkhana Champion R32 Skyline. He was a good benchmark for my times.

Another R32 was competing but I think they entered just to fry some tyres :P.

The GTR is making a decent amount of power and launched amazingly quick.

If you want to be competitive, Semi-slicks are a must. I was running Federal RS-R’s on the R32 until they wore down really quickly and had to change to my spares – Federal 595SS’s. The change cost us 6 seconds on the larger layout and 2 seconds on the smaller layout which was about 20% and 10% difference respectively. Reece was running Bridgestone’s on the front with Toyo’s on the rear.

Because I was competing as well, I didn’t really have time to take many action shots. These are the shots that I did get.

Reece let other people drive his R32 to compete in the event.

Smoking it does look good but isn’t the fastest way around the corner.

This was also a borrowed car due to a mechanical break down at the start line.

Due to the previous noise complaints, the MGCC had their own person monitoring sound levels.

I do also have some video from the event but doesn’t look like enough to make a video to put online. After we changed to the 595SS’s, I tried to put on a show so hopefully someone else will have some video.

Nice pics, especially the 3 wheeler.

Did that kid of Neil or Rick Bates compete again?
