While we were in Osaka, we were lucky enough to see the Kansai Allstars Drift Event at Meihan Sportsland. This event was the finals for the Kansai area. Preliminaries were held in different areas around Kansai and five of the top drifters were invited to compete in this championship.

There were a massive 138 entries, most of the cars being Nissan Silvia’s or Nissan 180sx’s.

The event format was judged solo runs, followed by a battle tree.

A Front Wheel Drive Nissan Micra made it through to this event, unfortunately it was knocked out early in the day.

Looks like a 180…

but is actually a S14 Onevia.

Interesting thing about Japanese tracks is that you can get really close to the action. Some of these guys stand right on the edge of the first entry corner and cheer their team mates to go faster and get closer.

I took a couple of photos, at this spot but it felt dangerous with those guys drifting at speed, only half a meter away from me and only a tyre for a shield.

The crowd really picked up around lunch time.

This is a 240sx that had been imported from the states.

Still left hand drive, but had a SR20.

They also had a team drifting competition – 5 cars (for the area) team. It was very impressive to see their formation and proximity.

There was even enough female drivers to hold their own top 16 battle. Their level is very high and would be very competitive to the top drifters in Australia.

*I think this was one of the female drivers

There was an expression session at the end of the day with a crazy amount of cars. Rob counted around 38 cars on the track at one time and it was rare to see spin out.

One of the drifters from Team Burst was there to lead the Expression session. Check out all of his stickers.

This was by far the most impressive thing I saw on the entire trip, the massive 9-11 car drift trains in the expression session at the end.
With all the s13s it was almost like a one make series! If I remember there was 24-27 s13s (in various forms) getting around, it was AWESOME!
